Starting a new school can feel like a big step but joining Year 9 at Leweston? That’s a leap worth taking. Whether you’re coming from a Prep School, another senior school, or even from abroad, here are nine reasons why Year 9 is the perfect time to become part of the Leweston community.
1. You're not the only new one
Year 9 is one of the main entry points to Leweston, so you’re not the only new person joining at this stage and, even if you have been here a little longer, all of the tutor and teaching groups are mixed up again in Year 9 so everyone will be making having new experiences and settling in together.
2. You’re Not Starting from Scratch
Even before you join, Leweston makes sure you feel part of the school. There are activity days, team-building mornings, and even holiday clubs where you can meet future classmates and get to know the school before your first day and everyone is really welcoming. When you do get here the other pupils will help you find our way around, and the staff will be checking in to make sure you are settling.
3. You get to try everything
In Year 9, you still study a wide range of subjects before choosing your GCSEs, some of these might be new could turn out to be one of your favourites! Year 9 is a great year to explore what you’re good at (and surprise yourself a bit too). Some subjects begin to introduce GCSE content in Year 9, so you’re not thrown in at the deep end in Year 10. You get a whole year to build confidence and get ahead
4. The Teachers Really Know You
Leweston is known for its personal approach. Teachers really get to know you—your strengths, your goals, and how to help you improve. It makes a huge difference.
5. There's so much to do
From fencing and riding to debating and drama, there’s something for everyone. You will be encouraged to try new things, take risks, and find your passion. It’s not just about lessons—it’s about becoming the best version of yourself.
6. You’re Encouraged to Be Brave
Leweston is the kind of place where you feel safe enough to try all these new things—even if you’re not sure you’ll be good at them.
7. You’re Treated Like a Young Adult
In Year 9, you start to get more independence. You will be trusted to manage your time, organise your homework, and take responsibility for your learning. It’s not always easy but it will help you to grow up and feel more prepared for GCSEs because of it.
8. The Campus Is Beautiful
Leweston is blessed with space, views and fresh air. Whilst many of the pupils have grown up in the countryside for some, coming from a city schools, this feels like stepping into a different world. There’s something extremely calming about being surrounded by nature, especially when you’ve had a busy day. It also means lots of opportunity to get outside and get active—good preparation for Duke of Edinburgh
9. You Start to Discover Who You Are
Year 9 isn’t just about lessons it’s about figuring out what matters to you. I’ve learned so much about myself this year: what I enjoy, what I care about, and what kind of person I want to be.
