Leweston Year 8 students explored French language, culture, and history through immersive activities, local market shopping, and memorable excursions on their recent trip to France.
Leweston’s Year 8 students recently returned from an action-packed trip to France, where they immersed themselves in French language, culture, and adventure.
Throughout the week, pupils took part in a wide variety of activities designed to develop both their language skills and cultural understanding. Days were spent on a rotation of attending engaging French lessons and interactive learning experiences in which they could put their classroom language to practical use. This involved cooking a French dessert, making mosaics, playing traditional French games, learning circus skills with a professional trainer and dance moves for the disco!
One of the highlights for many was the opportunity to shop for their own lunch at the local markets, using their language skills in a real-world setting. The students were given a budget and had to purchase ingredients to make a starter, main course and pudding. Prizes were awarded for the linguistic and culinary presentation and all enjoyed both! Further delicious fun-filled food tasting took place in the evenings with snail sampling and a visit to a very elegant local restaurant, where the quality of the a la carte dining was matched only by the outfits of our debonair pupils.
The group also enjoyed memorable visits to the picturesque town of Avallon and the historic Château de Bussy-Rabutin, giving students a deeper appreciation of French history which was tested during a team activity in the castle's maze. Rain didn't stop play for the kayaking, which was a highlight for many, and for those with energy remaining, a fun-filled disco rounded off the week.
This trip provided a fantastic opportunity for students to expand their French vocabulary, grow in confidence, and create lasting memories with their friends.
A huge thank you goes to the dedicated staff who organised and accompanied the trip, ensuring it was a rewarding and memorable experience for everyone involved.
