Well done to our U12 girls' hockey team who showcased dedication and teamwork at the West Regional Tournament, coming 5th despite strong competition.
Last Friday, our U12 girls' hockey team proudly represented the school at the West Regional Hockey Tournament. This opportunity came after their impressive victory in November, where they secured the County Championship title by defeating their opponents with a remarkable margin of over 10 goals.
In preparation for the tournament, the girls showed unwavering commitment, attending Friday afternoon training sessions alongside the boys' team, all while balancing their netball commitments. Their dedication and perseverance were evident on the day of the competition.
The tournament featured strong opposition, with many teams having large year groups to select from. Matches were played in 15-minute intervals, requiring high levels of focus and teamwork. Our girls rose to the challenge, demonstrating excellent communication and mutual encouragement throughout.
A special mention goes to Penny, who initially supported the U12A team as goalie while Joanne was side-lined due to injury last season. Penny's continued dedication to training and support paid off, and her presence at the tournament was invaluable.
Defensively, our team faced significant pressure from opponents utilising clever passing strategies. However, our defensive line (Mimi L, Piper B, Aurelia P and Annabel G) held strong, demonstrating resilience and skill under challenging conditions. Meanwhile, our wingers (Lucia G, Bella F, Izzy K and Annabel G) ran tirelessly, creating excellent opportunities for the centres to break into the D. Despite numerous attempts on goal by Tilly W, Darcy N and Izzy K, we were unfortunately unable to convert these chances into goals.
Although the results did not reflect their hard work, the girls delivered a commendable performance coming 5th out of all the teams, proving their potential to dominate in future competitions. With continued growth and experience, this team is set to achieve great success in the years ahead. Tremendous well done to all players for their dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
