Leweston Prep pupils showcased their sailing skills at the IAPS National Sailing Regatta amidst challenging weather, securing commendable finishes and demonstrating resilience and teamwork.
Four Leweston Prep pupils travelled to the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy last week to compete in the IAPS National Sailing Regatta. Milo G, Samuel P, Oliver B and Nico F have all recently completed their RYA ‘Start Racing Course’ at the Andrew Simpson Centre in Portland and were keen to test their new found racing skills against the best Prep school sailors from across the country. On the day, crews from all corners of the UK turned up at Portland to race against each other in the thirty-four RS Zest dinghies that the Andrew Simpson Centre had prepared for the event. Unfortunately, the weather did not get the message on the day and, as well as rain, there was little to no wind for the duration of the planned race times. Two attempted races were made around the Portland harbour course but both races had to be abandoned before the majority of boats had reached the course finish line. Instructors and supervising race officers recorded the relative positions of each boat in the race to formulate a final standings table. Our two Leweston Prep crews managed to finish in 17th and 21st place out of the 34 crews entered (with Oliver and Nico managing a 10th place in their final race of the day).
Congratulations to all the pupils involved in this special day and many thanks to the parents of the competitors for their fantastic support and encouragement across the day.
