Year 11 Army Work Experience: A Glimpse into Military Training

Having just returned from her Army Work Experience Hetty M has shared her adventures with, Careers Advisor, Mrs Hutton.

Hetty arrived at Okehampton Army Barracks, where exercises were conducted in Dartmoor National Park. Participants were awakened at 0600 for breakfast and began their exercises at 0730. These activities included conducting vehicle searches, constructing a pulley system in teams (Hetty’s team emerged victorious), hiking, hill climbing with full gear and mock weapons, and learning to identify suspects from afar and communicate this over the radio. In teams, participants constructed a basher to sleep in overnight, only to be awakened at midnight for an exercise involving actors portraying enemies on a mission to bomb a bridge. They had to stealthily approach the actors and gather information without being detected, which included sneaking up to the vehicle when the actors were distracted and searching it for drugs and weapons. Hetty also engaged in drill work and tackled obstacle courses back at the camp.

To quote Hetty ‘this was a brilliant experience which has made me even more determined to join the Army.’
