Prep 5 Visit Kew Gardens

Prep 5 visited Kew yesterday to further enhance their recent scientific topics into the study of plants and pollination.

During their visit, our group toured the Princess of Wales Conservatory, the Palm House and the Temperate House (in which Prep 5 were given a personalised tour by Leweston's Equestrian Manager Lorraine Roberts' daughter, Zoe, who is just coming to the end of a work placement at Kew!).

Pupils also observed the metallic 'Beehive' installation and enjoyed testing their aerial skills by walking along the 'Tree Top' trail. They used their time in the Palm House constructively; completing observational sketches and accompanying notes into the various endangered plant species that they came across.

Prior to the trip, pupils had spent time researching the history and attractions at Kew in order to give them a clearer understanding of the locality they were going to. During the trip, pupils also took supervised turns to 'lead' the group, making use of their map reading skills, as they walked (several miles!) across the length of the Kew grounds.
