Leweston Triumphs in T1 Rugby Series at Twickenham

On Tuesday, 26 November, students from Years 10 and 13 journeyed to Twickenham to proudly represent Leweston at the Allianz Stadium during the T1 Rugby Takeover event, previously known as Touch 2 Twickenham.

In May, Leweston marked a milestone by participating in the U14 Mixed Dorset Schools Touch Rugby Competition for the first time. The students showcased exceptional teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship, securing a victory for Leweston 'St Anthony's.' This achievement earned them a spot at the Touch Rugby Finals day at a premier rugby venue. Our Sixth Formers also shone as referees, receiving an invitation to join our U14 players to officiate at the finals day.

The Touch 2 Twickenham finals day was hosted in June at Sixways Stadium (home of the Worcester Warriors) and here our players qualified for the tournament at Twickenham. Our, then, Year 12 students, had a brilliant time officiating for the day.

This week, they headed to Twickenham for the Final in the T1 Rugby Takeover event (formally Touch 2 Twickenham). The series is a mixed-gender, inclusive, non-contact event, encouraging participation among students new to rugby.

Mr Cannon and Mr Wilford were immensely proud of our players' conduct both on and off the field, as well as their significant improvement in rugby skills throughout the day. Our Year 10 students performed exceptionally well, embodying rugby values in every game whilst our Year 13 Young Leaders managed games through refereeing for the entire day.

"What has been a real privilege is to witness the pupils whom have not traditionally played games excel and achieve huge personal success. I firmly believe it has brought a new confidence to a number of our students." - Mr Wilford.
