Leweston hosts first UK Pentathlon with new Obstacle Course Racing

Leweston made history by hosting the inaugural Pentathlon in the UK featuring the innovative Pentathlon Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) format set to replace horse riding post-Paris Olympics. The competition showcased disciplines such as fencing, swimming, and Laser Run.

Moreover, this event served as a pivotal Qualifier for the GB Laser Run team aiming for a spot at the World Championships in China.

A total of 190 athletes participated in the Laser Run, with the option to also compete in a swim for the Triathlon, include OCR or Fence for the Tetrathlon, or take on the full Pentathlon. The event attracted athletes from various regions, including Scotland and a team of 15 from Ireland. The OCR took place on Saturday, followed by the Laser Run, Swim, and Fence on Sunday.

Leweston school showcased exceptional performances in the Pentathlon, with Thomas J (U19), Jessica S (U17), Aiden K (U13), Izzy K (U13), and Elizabeth D (U11) clinching gold. Josh H (U17) secured the silver medal, while Lara P (U13) earned bronze, and Henry M (U13) finished in fifth place. A special mention goes to Lara, who displayed unwavering determination by persevering through a fall during the Laser Run and finishing despite a painful graze on her leg.

The Laser Run served as a crucial opportunity for athletes to qualify for the GB Laser Run team, and it was a proud moment for Leweston School as 18 athletes participated, with an impressive 11 students securing a spot on the GB team. Congratulations to all those who made the team;
