‘Blessed are the peacemakers’ Matthew 5:9
The theme for the Year 8 Retreat Day last week was the ‘International Day of Peace’ celebrated this month. The purpose of the day was to explore peace as a fundamental human right and its place within Catholic Social Teaching.
Students had time to reflect on their beliefs about peace, what it is and how we can achieve peace in our own lives and the lives of others. It provided opportunities for creativity and fun, including group activities such as; a ‘Prayer Run’ led by Dr Milestone, an art project creating ‘Peace flags’ led by Mrs Lacey and her team, and planting in our Leweston gardens under the direction of Dr Greenway and Ms O’Toole. The Retreat Day also gave space for smaller groups to create music, write songs, make origami cranes or produce a digital awareness campaign, all with the focus of Peace.
The day concluded with highlights of the day and a prayer reflection in the Chapel. The Year 8 students embraced the experience making a super contribution to a wonderful day!
