Dramatic Wins on the Rugby Pitch

The rugby programme has made a positive start, with several teams producing impressive results.

The U15s delivered one of the most thrilling results of the term so far, edging Stonar School 32-31 at Sherborne RFC in a game that showed great resilience and composure under pressure.

The U14s have also started exceptionally well, with notable victories over Monkton Combe and Stonar School, including an impressive 41-19 win over Stonar. Their confidence and teamwork have been evident throughout.

The U13s acquitted themselves impressively at the Dorset County Tournament. Despite facing some of the county’s much larger schools, they more than held their own and represented Leweston with distinction.

At U12 level, several new players have joined the squad, and steady improvement is being made as they embrace new challenges. There is great anticipation to see how the team develops after half term.

For the 1st XV, fixtures against Dauntsey’s School and Mount Kelly have provided valuable learning opportunities. Mr Wilford has been particularly pleased with the way a number of boys have stepped up confidently to compete in U18 rugby, showing commitment and maturity as they make the transition to senior-level competition.

Cross Country Teams Qualify for Regional Round

Runners from across the school travelled to Bryanston School for the Dorset & Wiltshire Round of the English Schools Cross Country Cup.

Congratulations go to the Inter Girls, Inter Boys and Senior Girls teams, who all qualified for the South West Regional Round. Leweston will have the privilege of hosting this prestigious event on Saturday 7 November, welcoming schools and runners from across the South West, from Cornwall to Berkshire and everywhere in between.

The achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the athletes and the strength of the school’s cross country programme.

Netball: District Champions Crowned

Netball players have been competing in district tournaments as they seek qualification for the County Finals.

The U14 team secured qualification and also finished as District Champions, placing first across the district competition. The U16 team also delivered an excellent performance, qualifying for the next stage and continuing the school’s strong netball tradition.

Hockey Enjoys a Busy, Productive Start

Hockey has had a particularly busy start to the term. The U13 age group has benefitted significantly from selections across Years 7 and 8, increasing competition for places and driving strong progression across all four teams. Early-season fixtures against Mount Kelly, Sandroyd, The Gryphon, Warminster and Hazelgrove have provided plenty of competitive opportunities and valuable match experience.

Further up the school, the U14, U15, 1st XI and 2nd XI sides have all begun their campaigns with enthusiasm and determination.

The U15s have been especially impressive, winning two of their three matches so far and already scoring nine goals this season. Their confidence in front of goal has been a real highlight of the term.

Looking Ahead

The first half of term has showcased the enthusiasm, resilience and sporting talent found throughout Leweston. With county competitions, regional qualification events and a busy fixture list still to come, pupils in every year group have built strong foundations and have much to look forward to. The school community eagerly anticipates seeing these teams continue to develop, compete and achieve through the rest of the season.
