The day began with the children discovering their very own Explorer names, using the first letter of their forename and surname. They then received an exciting letter from Tessa, a character from their topic book, who had set up a treasure hunt around the school grounds.
Each clue contained a riddle leading the children to their next destination. Working together to solve the clues, the children eventually discovered the hidden treasure in Prep Reception.
Inside were some very special rewards: five House Points for everyone, five stars for the Star Jar and five packets of marshmallows. But what could Tessa possibly have planned for the marshmallows?
The children soon found out as they began making their own treasure maps. They first stained the paper with coffee to give their maps an authentic, weathered appearance. Once they had dried, the children were able to design their own maps, adding their own ideas and details.
The adventure continued outdoors with a Forest School session. The children lit a campfire and toasted their marshmallows together, enjoying a memorable end to an exciting day of learning.
From following riddles and solving problems to creating their own maps and learning around the campfire, the day gave the children plenty of opportunities to explore, use their imaginations and learn through experience.
It was a marvellous day of discovery — and certainly one that Prep 2 will remember!
