Leweston pupils embraced the excitement of World Maths Day last week, joining millions of students across the globe in a celebration of problem‑solving, speed, and mathematical confidence. Classrooms across the school were buzzing as pupils took on live challenges, competed for points, and pushed themselves to climb the international leaderboards.

World Maths Day, run by Mathletics, invites students worldwide to compete in real‑time maths challenges, earning points for every correct answer and the chance to secure a place on the prestigious Hall of Fame. This year’s competition saw students demonstrating incredible fluency, focus, and determination.

Leweston pupils rose to the challenge with outstanding results across multiple age categories:

  • Year 7 placed 3rd in the country and 31st in the world, with Ben M achieving 10th in the country individually.
  • Year 8 secured 5th in the country and 34th in the world, with Aiden K placing 36th nationally.
  • Years 9 - 12 achieved an exceptional 2nd in the country and 23rd in the world, with standout individual performances from:
    • Harry W (pictured) – 3rd in the country and an extraordinary 43rd in the world, earning a place in the Top 100 Hall of Fame!
    • Dexter S – 18th in the country
    • Jess S – 22nd in the country

These achievements are a testament not only to the pupils’ performance on the day, but to the sustained hard work, commitment, and curiosity they bring to their mathematical learning throughout their time at Leweston. We are equally grateful to the Maths Team for their expertise and encouragement, which continue to nurture a culture of ambition, resilience, and academic excellence within the department.
