Thirty-five Year 9 students from Leweston School have successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Qualifying Expedition, navigating the stunning yet challenging landscape of Purbeck, South Dorset.
Over the course of two days, students trekked 12 to 15 kilometres each day, carrying everything they needed on their backs — from tents and cooking equipment to food and supplies. Battling tired legs and steep hills, pupils demonstrated remarkable determination and teamwork, pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones.
While the physical challenge was significant, the expedition was about much more than the miles walked. The focus of the weekend was on teamwork, communication, and the invaluable experience of learning about oneself and others. Students were encouraged to support their teammates, reflect on their strengths, and embrace the opportunity to discover their limits, talents, and resilience.
Throughout the expedition, the Year 9s not only met the rigorous requirements of the Bronze DofE Award, but also created lasting memories and built friendships forged through shared challenges and achievement.
Leweston staff praised the students for their positive attitude, independence, and perseverance, commending them for rising to the occasion and embodying the spirit of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
