Over the past week, twenty-five pupils from Prep 6, along with two children from Prep 5, have been relishing their RYA sailing courses at the Andrew Simpson Sailing Centre in Portland. Building on the foundation they laid in Prep 5 last year, these pupils have been advancing through higher-level sailing courses, including RYA Stage 2 and 3, as well as RYA Start Racing. The two Prep 5 sailors joined their older peers due to their prior completion of several sailing courses outside of school.
The pupils took full advantage of the Olympic waters at Portland Harbour during their two-day courses, acquiring new boat handling skills and sailing different dinghies compared to those they used at Rockley last year. By the end of the two days, Leweston Prep pupils achieved a remarkable 100% pass rate on their respective courses. Additionally, the RYA Start Racing group of four pupils had the chance to hone their racing skills in preparation for the IAPS National Sailing Regatta next week, where they will proudly represent Leweston Prep.
