Insights from Mo Gherris on Hospitality Careers and Entrepreneurship

Mo Gherris shared insights on the hospitality industry, his career, and advice for Year 10 students on working in hospitality.

Many thanks to Mo Gherris for speaking to Year 10 about his career in the hospitality industry. Mo discussed his employment background including working for Gordon Ramsay for 12 years (whom he humorously described as a softy) and his current ownership of the Cross Keys at Sherborne. He elaborated on the complexities of managing a hotel, bar, and restaurant, as well as the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship. It was intriguing to discover that the Cross Keys is bustling from 7am each morning, attracting many for a coffee.

Mo encouraged the students to apply for part-time work in the hospitality industry when they are 16 to build their employability skills. He offered guidance on securing a job and navigating interview questions. He also invited students to reach out to him directly in the future for a trial shift.

Year 10 posed some thought-provoking questions, including an insightful one about Mo's future ambitions, which involve launching smaller venues centred around rotisserie chicken and cocktails.
