Celebrating Dyslexia Awareness Week at Leweston School

This commitment has recently been recognised on a national stage, with Leweston School being named a finalist in the Independent School of the Year Awards for SEND Provision. The accolade reflects the school's dedication to knowing every child as an individual and providing the support, challenge and encouragement they need to thrive. We wish the team luck in London next week at the awards.

At the heart of Leweston's approach is individualised learning. We understand that dyslexia affects every learner differently, which is why support is tailored to each pupil's strengths and needs. Through high-quality differentiated teaching, targeted interventions and specialist guidance, pupils are given the strategies and confidence they need to succeed both academically and personally.

A key part of this support is our dedicated Individual Needs (IN) Department, a specialist hub that provides teaching spaces, intervention rooms and a nurturing environment where pupils feel understood, valued and empowered. Specialist staff work closely with teachers and families to ensure support is evidence-based, responsive and effective.

Dyslexia Awareness Week is also an opportunity to celebrate the many strengths associated with dyslexia. Creativity, problem-solving, resilience and innovative thinking are qualities that enrich our classrooms and wider school community. At Leweston, we actively encourage pupils to recognise these strengths within themselves and to take pride in the unique ways they learn and think.

Whether excelling in academics, sport, the arts, leadership or co-curricular activities, our pupils are encouraged to embrace opportunities, discover their passions and develop the confidence to pursue their ambitions. This is what it means to be part of a school where every child is known, valued and supported as an individual.

As we mark Dyslexia Awareness Week, we are proud to celebrate our dyslexic learners and the dedicated staff who support them every day. Together, we continue to create an environment where every child can grow in confidence, realise their potential and leave Leweston ready for anything, entirely themselves.
