Art Students Showcase Talent at Leweston Fashion Show

We extend our gratitude to everyone who joined us for the Leweston Fashion Show last week. The event served as a platform to exhibit the exceptional creativity of our students as they confidently showcased the hats and garments crafted during their Art, Design, and Textiles lessons.
Leweston School Fashion Show

Leweston Fashion Show is a bi-annual event, showcasing the student's work, made in our creative Art and Design centre. The show encompassed a wide spectrum of talent, featuring works from Year 7 through to GCSE and A Level students. This highlighted the diverse disciplines offered in our Art and Design department, showcasing the impressive designs produced by our budding artists.

In a whimsical nod to Alice in Wonderland, Year 7 students fashioned hats adorned with teapots and rabbits in top hats. Year 8 students explored the vibrant world of tie-dye, creating T-shirts with screen prints using exciting colours and psychedelic patterns, resulting in the ultimate tie-dye masterpieces. Year 9 students embraced eco-friendly themes by repurposing old garments and transforming them into new and innovative creations. This not only demonstrated their creativity but also instilled an awareness of the textile industry and its environmental impact. The GCSE textile students stole the spotlight with meticulously crafted toile and final pieces, demonstrating their skills in stitching, embroidery, printing, and embellishment. Influenced by nature, their creations were a testament to their dedication and artistic flair.

Our A Level pupils proudly presented their course final pieces, which not only impressed us during university interviews but also graced our catwalks. Long gowns adorned with enchanting embellishments, resin-cast dragon scales, ghost-set rhinestones, and sublimation digitally printed fabrics illustrated the students' mastery of silhouettes and textile techniques. The Textile Club also had its moment to shine, featuring a dedicated section where students could exhibit their creations made during club sessions and leisure time. This provided a platform for them to express their creativity and determination in pursuing fashion as an important subject in school.

Fashion and textiles' ability to foster creativity, not only as a means of personal growth but also as a pathway to a fulfilling career, is very much a part of Leweston. The show was truly spectacular, complete with a red carpet, and expertly styled hair and makeup. We are immensely proud of all our students, spanning various age groups, who participated with enthusiasm, building confidence, and showcasing their exceptional work.
